Concerts and Shows on the Horizon

This post is going to heighten the view you already have of me as a concert fiend, but I just think all you gents and ladies should be aware of the great summer ahead. Instead of rambling I'll just list off the next few months worth of exciting shows:

- Tuesday July 12 - NKOTBSB: You know what this is. New Kids on the Block + Backstreet Boys. Yes I'm going. Yes it's nostalgic and a 90's throwback. And yes, I may just swoon when I see Nick, Brian, Howie and A.J sync their dance moves.

- Wednesday July 13 - Scenic Route to Alaska: Not a surprise that these fellas are playing another local show, but a definite happy surprise that they posted this new show. It's at

Wunderbar on Whyte Ave, only $7! It's the kick-off to their tour with band Owls by Nature. Go on. You know you want to.

- Thursday July 14 - The Tragically Hip, Broken Social Scene, Hey Rosetta!: As far as I know tickets ARE STILL AVAILABLE for this crazy packed line up performing at the Northlands Expo Grounds. Tickets are "pricey" at about $75, however just stop for 2 seconds to think of what you'd be paying for. Three absolutely stellar bands: a Canadian staple, a mash-up supergroup, and a band short-listed for this year's Polaris Music Prize. It's a show that'll turn to legend. Be there, or be...depressed for a good long while.

- Wednesday July 20 - The Burning Hell w/ Wax Mannequin: I fell for the Burning Hell and Mathias Kom's depressing wit when I saw them perform with Dan Mangan at the Myer Horowitz THeatre. They completely stole the show and had audiences laughing during the whole set (with them, not at them....for good reason, not bad). Their live show is much better than their album; it has a more intimate and friendly feeling that's needed for the songs. Tickets are still on sale: only $12 in advance at Blackbyrd Myoozik, or on yeglive.ca, or $15 at the door. It's a late show, 9.30 at the Haven Social Club, so there's no reason not to be there. You won't regret it.

- July 30- Aug 01 - Canmore Folk Fest: Alright. It's not exactly in the city, but it's not exactly far either. A short drive towards the mountains from Calgary, I'm pretty surprised by the fest's line up, including Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Elliot Brood, and U22 artists such as Scenic Route to Alaska. Taking place from July 31-Aug 1, Tickets are available, the weekend pass is only $80 for adults.

- Aug 4-7 - Edmonton Folk Fest: The schedule is sounding better and better each time I look, and is making me more and more sad that I'll be missing it. Yes, tickets are sold out, but I'll also be out of the country during the fest. It'll include K.T Tunstall, Deer Tick, U22 artists (i.e SRta, The Command Sisters etc), Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes and tons more. If you can somehow get your hands on a coveted ticket, don't let that bad boy go.

I have a feeling there are more shows to add....which will happen once I think of them. For now, relish in the city's perfomances...OR go out and buy your tickets NOW NOW NOW.
