As much as I love Edmonton and would never dream about cheating on the fair and proud city...I happen to be following through with a certain indiscretion this weekend. I'll be heading down to Calgary during the first weekend of the world famous Calgary Stampede. If you're from Alberta, or many parts of Canada...you'll be aware of the beginning-of-time rivalry between the two cities. But I've decided to put my differences aside for the next two days for the sake of great music. Isn't that always the case? And even if you are currently red in the face, ready to tear me a new (insert inapproprite word here), hear me out: Hollerado, Tokyo Police Club, Mother Mother. All in one weekend. All performing at the Stampede grounds. All for the ridiculously low price of
$15 per day (this includes admission to the grounds only, not rides or rodeo events. But it's just enough to get you to see the bands!).
This line-up floored me when I just happened to be bored one day and browsing around the festival's website. Not only bands that I like, but three of my favourite CANADIAN bands will be playing, and on a weekend! I'd be stupid NOT to go. I'd say the same for you, but then it'd just be me calling you names. And I think we both know I'm better than that (slightly).
I'll be heading out tomorrow morning, and driving back late Sunday night (to arrive for work Monday morning. What a trooper eh.) See you there?!
PS. I'm aware that I've been promoting the heck out of Edmonton's SOS fest this Sunday. And yes I'm ashamed to say I won't be able to make it. I hid this fact, only because I figure if you lovely guys and gals go that'll make up for my lack of being there. If you can't make it to Calgary, go to SOS! Just stop by for an hour! Seriously, it's a Sunday afternoon. I'm sure you'd be at Whyte Ave anyway (or just stay the morning after crazy Saturday night).
NB: Edmonton's Capital Ex Festival used to have Ed Fest, and for two years had an awesome line up. This year the Festivals musical line-up includes Ace of Base, Wide Mouth Mason, and Natasha Bedingfield. ....Don't all run out at once to buy your tickets.
